The best Clash Royale meta decks this season are built around two Evolutions that everyone seems to own: Evo Battle Ram and Evo Royal Ghost. Bridge spam with that pair is the most-played Ranked deck right now at a 55.1% win rate over 54,960 battles, and the rest of the top table is Mortar siege, Balloon Freeze, and a new wave of Minion Giant lists. Below are the 7 decks we would actually queue, with the full card list, average elixir, 4-card cycle, how it wins, which Evolutions and Heroes it runs, how it matches up against the others, and who should skip it. This post covers 1v1. If you play with a friend, our best 2v2 decks breakdown is the companion piece.
Current-patch context: this is Season 87 (Minion Academy), after the September 8 and September 16 balance updates. Last checked September 2026. Deck numbers are our read of RoyaleTracker’s Ranked data (Ultimate Champion and Path of Legends battles, 2,536,749 battles in the sample, data dated September 28). Supercell doesn’t publish official deck win rates, so a tracker is as close as anyone gets.
What changed in the September balance updates
Two balance updates in nine days reshaped the top of the ladder. The new toys got trimmed, and the old bridge spam core took a small nerf and kept winning anyway. Supercell’s own September balance changes post lists all of them. These are the ones that move the decks in this guide:
| Card | Stat | Before | After | Decks it touches |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Battle Ram Evolution | Knockback | 2.5 tiles | 2 tiles | Both bridge spam decks |
| Battle Ram | Sight range | 5.5 tiles | 6.5 tiles | Both bridge spam decks (partial buff) |
| Freeze | Duration | 4s | 3.5s | Balloon Freeze |
| Fireball | Crown Tower damage | 172 | 159 | Mortar, Minion Giant, Hog Cycle |
| Ice Golem | Hitpoints | 1315 | 1228 | Hog Cycle |
| Zappies | Hit speed | 2.2s | 2.3s | Hero Wizard bridge spam |
| Hero Wizard | Ability duration | 5s | 3.5s | Hero Wizard bridge spam |
| Wizard | Damage | 281 | 304 | Hero Wizard bridge spam |
| Ronin | Hit speed | 1.4s | 1.3s | Ram Ghost bridge spam (buff) |
| Hero Ice Wizard | Freeze duration | 7s | 5s | Mortar |
| Minion Giant | Damage | 189 | 168 | Minion Giant control, Rune Giant cycle |
| Goblinstein | Ability duration | 4s | 3.5s | Minion Giant control, Mortar variant |
Stats are at Level 11, the way Supercell scales them. Battle Ram lost a bit of knockback but gained sight range, so it lost less than the patch note suggests. Hero Ice Wizard went from “your push is frozen for a week” to merely annoying. The Fireball tower nerf also hurts every deck that closes games with spell chip, which is most of this list.
Clash Royale best decks: the master table
Here is the whole list on one screen. Win rates and battle counts are RoyaleTracker’s Ranked figures from September 28, except Hog Cycle, which is measured on ladder at Arena 32 (13,500-14,000 trophies) because that is where the deck actually lives. Difficulty is our call, not the tracker’s.
| Deck | Archetype | Avg elixir | Win rate (battles) | Difficulty | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ram Ghost bridge spam | Bridge spam | 3.8 | 55.1% (54,960) | Medium | Ranked |
| Hero Wizard Giant Skeleton | Bridge spam / control | 3.9 | 54.7% (29,247) | Hard | Ranked |
| Mortar with Hero Ice Wizard | Siege | 3.6 | 54.7% (28,663) | Hard | Ranked |
| Minion Giant Goblinstein | Control / spell bait | 3.4 | 54.5% (20,424) | Medium | Ranked and ladder |
| Balloon Freeze (Hero Knight) | Air beatdown | 3.8 | 55.2% (19,628) | Medium | Ranked and ladder |
| Rune Giant Minion Giant cycle | Cycle | 2.9 | 56.0% (7,480) | Hard | Ranked |
| 2.6 Hog Cycle | Cycle | 2.6 | 58.0% (474, Arena 32) | Hard | Ladder |
Before you pick, notice that every deck in the Ranked top 20 sits between roughly 54% and 57%. That’s a healthy top table, and it means none of these decks will win for you. What separates them is which mistakes they forgive.
Ram Ghost bridge spam
- Battle Ram (Evolution)
- Royal Ghost (Evolution)
- Electro Wizard
- Golden Knight
- Bandit
- Ronin
- Furnace
- Arrows
Avg elixir 3.8, 4-card cycle 13, 55.1% over 54,960 battles, 1.08% of all tracked Ranked battles. This is the most-played deck in Ranked by a wide margin, almost double the next list. You win by defending with Electro Wizard and Furnace, then punishing the opposite lane with two or three fast threats at once: Ram, Ghost, Bandit, Golden Knight’s dash. Your opponent can answer one bridge threat cleanly, but three inside eight seconds usually costs them a tower. Evolutions: Battle Ram and Royal Ghost, with no Hero in this build. The Ronin hit speed buff (1.4s to 1.3s) made the defensive half of the deck better than it was in August.
Matchups: good into Mortar, because Mortar spends 4 elixir on a building and bridge spam hits the other lane before it pays off. Even into Minion Giant control. Rough into Balloon Freeze if you over-commit, since Furnace and Arrows are your only air answers until Electro Wizard cycles back. Skip it if you like slow, patient games. Bridge spam is a tempo deck, and a player who waits for double elixir to do anything bleeds the lead this deck is built to take.
Hero Wizard Giant Skeleton
- Battle Ram (Evolution)
- Royal Ghost (Evolution)
- Wizard (Hero)
- Giant Skeleton
- Zappies
- Mother Witch
- Barbarian Barrel
- Vines
Avg elixir 3.9, 4-card cycle 12, 54.7% over 29,247 battles. This runs the same bridge spam engine with a heavier body. The Giant Skeleton defends a push, its death bomb wipes whatever is left, and the counterpush arrives with Ram or Ghost behind it. Hero Wizard is the reason to play this version over the list above: it lost ability time (5s to 3.5s, so you get 2 Tornadoes instead of more), but the base Wizard gained damage (281 to 304) and now one-shots Firecracker and Archers, per Supercell. Evolutions and Hero: Evo Battle Ram, Evo Royal Ghost, Hero Wizard.
Matchups: strongest into ground beatdown and Hog Cycle, where Giant Skeleton plus Vines stops the push cold. Weak into Rune Giant cycle, which runs you out of answers by cycling faster than a 3.9 deck can keep up with. Skip it if you are under-leveled on Zappies. The hit speed nerf (2.2s to 2.3s) already cut into their value, and an under-leveled Zappies misses the kill thresholds the whole defense depends on.
Mortar with Hero Ice Wizard
- Mortar (Evolution)
- Skeleton Barrel (Evolution)
- Ice Wizard (Hero)
- Goblin Gang
- Rascals
- Cannon Cart
- Fireball
- Barbarian Barrel
Avg elixir 3.6, 4-card cycle 11, 54.7% over 28,663 battles. Siege is back, and Mortar is the most skill-expressive deck in the top five. You win by planting Evo Mortar at the bridge, defending it with cheap swarm plus Hero Ice Wizard, and letting it chip a tower down while Skeleton Barrel forces an answer on the other side. Hero Ice Wizard’s freeze got cut from 7s to 5s on September 16, and the deck held its win rate anyway, so the ability was never what carried it. A sister list swaps in Evo Minion Horde, Goblinstein and Mother Witch (54.8% over 25,384 battles, 4.0 elixir) if you don’t own Hero Ice Wizard.
Matchups: good into Balloon Freeze and Minion Giant, because Mortar outranges the Goblin Hut and the Balloon has to walk into your buildings first. Bad into Ram Ghost bridge spam, which ignores your Mortar and makes you defend the other lane with half your elixir spent. Skip it if you have never played siege. Mortar placement is a skill of its own, and a Mortar one tile off is 4 elixir of nothing.
A quick story from our side of the queue. Last season a customer’s Ranked push stalled at Grand Champion on Ram Ghost bridge spam. The booster wasn’t losing to better players; half the matches were mirrors where whoever had Ronin in hand first won. He switched to Mortar for the last two leagues, lost the first four games learning the placements (Mortar is humbling like that), then cleared Royal Champion in about a day and a half with the same card levels. Sometimes the better deck is just the one that dodges the mirror.
If you would rather skip the part where you lose four games learning Mortar placements, our Clash Royale boost team runs trophy pushes and Ranked league climbs on your schedule, on whichever of these decks your card levels support.
Minion Giant Goblinstein
- Musketeer (Evolution)
- Royal Ghost (Evolution)
- Skeletons
- Goblinstein
- Minion Giant
- Goblin Hut
- Fireball
- Barbarian Barrel
Avg elixir 3.4, 4-card cycle 10, 54.5% over 20,424 battles. This is the best use we’ve found for the season’s new card. Minion Giant flies, targets buildings, and spits from range, so ground-only defenders like Cannon can’t touch it. You win by stacking it behind Goblin Hut pressure and Royal Ghost, then trading efficiently on defense with Evo Musketeer and Goblinstein. The September 16 nerfs (Minion Giant damage 189 to 168, Goblinstein ability 4s to 3.5s) hit this deck twice and it is still top five. Evolutions: Musketeer and Royal Ghost. No Hero.
Matchups: strong into bridge spam, where Goblin Hut and Musketeer absorb the tempo. Weak into Balloon Freeze, which has more air damage than you have air defense, and into Mortar, which outranges your Hut. Skip it if you don’t own Minion Giant at a decent level yet. The album event hands out copies until October 5, and a Minion Giant two levels behind isn’t worth the deck slot.
Balloon Freeze with Hero Knight
- Baby Dragon (Evolution)
- Inferno Dragon (Evolution)
- Knight (Hero)
- Balloon
- Bowler
- Freeze
- Tornado
- Barbarian Barrel
Avg elixir 3.8, 4-card cycle 12, 55.2% over 19,628 battles. The Freeze nerf (4s to 3.5s) should have hurt this deck. It hasn’t, because Bowler and Hero Knight lock down ground pushes and Tornado pulls defenders off the Balloon’s path before Freeze even matters. You win by defending with Bowler and Evo Inferno Dragon, then sending Balloon with a tank on the counterpush and freezing whatever tries to stop it at the tower. The LumberLoon cousin swaps Hero Knight for Hero Balloon and Lumberjack and posts the higher number (56.8% over 8,275 battles), though Hero Balloon’s Skeletrooper landing damage was cut from 263 to 230.
Matchups: good into Minion Giant and bridge spam that lacks hard air answers. Bad into Mortar and anything running two buildings, since Balloon targets buildings and walks straight into them. Skip it if you panic-freeze. The deck lives on Freeze timing, and a Freeze thrown on defense is a Balloon that doesn’t connect for the next 30 seconds.
Rune Giant Minion Giant cycle
- Cannon (Evolution)
- Bats (Evolution)
- Skeletons
- Little Prince
- Rune Giant
- Minion Giant
- Poison
- Barbarian Barrel
Avg elixir 2.9, 4-card cycle 8, 56.0% over 7,480 battles. One of the highest win rates in the Ranked top 20, and the lowest elixir of any deck in it. RoyaleAPI’s popular-decks page was also leading with a Rune Giant, Evo Cannon, Evo Bats list when we checked, so two trackers agree this one is real. You win by cycling Rune Giant and Minion Giant faster than the opponent can build a push, and grinding the tower down with Poison and Little Prince chip. A sister build swaps Cannon for Goblin Hut and adds Evo Skeletons (55.0% over 6,223 battles).
Matchups: good into the slower bridge spam and siege lists, which can’t match the cycle speed. Bad into Balloon Freeze, where Bats alone don’t stop a Balloon plus Freeze. Skip it if you’re a new player. Low sample, high skill ceiling, and a cycle deck played slowly just hands the opponent free elixir.
2.6 Hog Cycle for ladder
- Cannon (Evolution)
- Skeletons (Evolution)
- Musketeer (Hero)
- Hog Rider
- Ice Spirit
- Ice Golem
- Fireball
- The Log
Avg elixir 2.6, 4-card cycle 6, 58.0% over 474 battles at Arena 32. Hog Cycle doesn’t crack the Ranked top 20 this week, and it’s still the most-played archetype in the game, at 2.37% of all tracked battles (101,388 this week, per RoyaleTracker’s archetype breakdown). The gap makes sense. On ladder, where levels are uneven and opponents misplay, the fastest cycle in the game punishes everything. The 474-battle sample is small, so read the 58% as “strong” rather than exact. The Ice Golem nerf (1315 to 1228 hitpoints) makes the kite slightly less forgiving. Our full 2.6 Hog Cycle guide covers openings and every matchup.
Matchups: good into Mega Knight and Golem beatdown on ladder. Bad into Hero Wizard Giant Skeleton and anything with Vines. Skip it if you can’t count elixir. Hog Cycle is the deck that exposes it fastest.
Ranked vs ladder: which deck for which climb
Ranked and Trophy Road reward different decks. Most players run one deck for both and then wonder why the second one feels harder. Ranked (the mode formerly called Path of Legends) opens at 15,000 trophies this season or after a Champion finish last season, per the Clash Royale wiki. It runs Master I to III, then Champion, Grand Champion, Royal Champion and Ultimate Champion, and resets on the first Monday of every month. Everyone in Ranked knows the matchups, so the decks that win are the ones with the fewest bad ones: bridge spam and Mortar.
On Trophy Road, card levels vary more and misplays are common, so decks that punish mistakes fastest, Hog Cycle and Balloon Freeze, climb best. Rule of thumb from our orders: if you’re still grinding toward the Ranked gate, run Hog or Balloon; once you’re in Ranked, switch to whichever top-five deck your levels support best. The RoyaleTracker Ultimate Champion deck data updates daily if you want to check what moved this week, and the end-of-season leaderboard deck thread on r/ClashRoyale shows what the top players actually finished last season on.
Where these win rates mislead you
Every number on this page has the same blind spot: it measures the players as much as the deck. A 56% Rune Giant cycle over 7,480 battles is mostly skilled cycle players who picked it on purpose. Hand the same list to a Balloon main and it won’t win 56% of anything. The opposite applies to Ram Ghost bridge spam. Its 55.1% is diluted by thousands of players who copied it last week, which is why the most-played deck rarely posts the highest number.
Two more caveats. Tracker samples lean toward the top of Ranked, so Master I and Master II players are under-represented. And Supercell shipped two balance updates in September alone, with a new season due in early October, so a win rate from last week is already partly history. Use this list to pick a direction, then check that week’s data before you spend Wild Cards on it.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best deck in Clash Royale right now?
Evo Battle Ram and Evo Royal Ghost bridge spam, on volume and win rate together: it’s the most-played Ranked deck at 55.1% over 54,960 battles in RoyaleTracker’s data from September 28. For Trophy Road below the Ranked gate, 2.6 Hog Cycle is still the best return on your card levels.
What is the best deck for Ultimate Champion?
Bridge spam and Mortar lead on how often top players pick them. The highest win rates with real samples are Rune Giant Minion Giant cycle (56.0%) and the Balloon Freeze variants (55.2% to 56.8%), but both demand more precise play than bridge spam does.
Is Hog Cycle still meta?
Yes. It’s the most-played archetype in the game at 2.37% of tracked battles and wins around 58% at Arena 32 on a small sample. It shows up less in the Ultimate Champion top 20, where opponents know the matchup well.
How many evolutions can you use in one deck?
Two at most. Since the March 2026 update every deck has one Evolution slot, one Hero slot, and one Wild slot that can hold either. That’s why most top decks run two Evolutions and no Hero, or one of each.
What is the best new card this season?
Minion Giant. Even after its damage nerf from 189 to 168, it shows up in two of the top Ranked decks, and it’s free through the Academy Antics album event until October 5.
How often does the Clash Royale meta change?
With every balance update and every new season. September had two balance updates (September 8 and 16), and Ranked resets on the first Monday of each month, so expect the top table to shuffle at least once a month.
The short version: Ram Ghost bridge spam is the safe Ranked pick, Mortar and Balloon Freeze are the counter-meta choices, Minion Giant is the new card worth building around, and Hog Cycle still owns ladder. Pick the deck your card levels support, not the one with the highest number. If you’d rather hand the grind to someone who plays these matchups every day, our team can push your trophies or your Ranked league to Ultimate Champion on your schedule.
