The short version: League of Legends does have a working code-redemption system in 2026, the codes that exist today are almost all tied to esports events and Riot’s official social pushes, and the era of public “free RP” codes ended around 2017. Anybody promising you free RP from a code in the current client is either selling you a scam or pasting a screenshot from a 2016 Reddit thread.

Below is what’s actually live right now, where to enter codes in the client, the full archive of expired ones (for the players who landed here from a Google search after pasting an old code into the client and getting “invalid”), and the realistic ceiling of what a working code actually gives you in 2026.

Active LoL redeem codes (current month)

Active codes rotate fast. The table below is the current working set as of this month’s editorial check. If you’re reading this more than 30 days after the post date at the top of the page, treat the table as a starting point rather than gospel – the codes most likely to still be live are the legacy summoner icons; the event-tied codes are the ones that expire first.

Code Reward Region Expected expiry
RGN-CDS-CHK-NEW Check current event – codes usually drop around Worlds / MSI / Anniversary Region-locked, varies Typically 30-60 days from drop
(Worlds 2026 code, TBD) Worlds-themed icon / emote Global per Worlds drop Inside Worlds window
(MSI 2026 code, TBD) MSI viewership icon / mission reward Linked to Riot account, no manual code MSI window only

If the active table above is empty when you reach this post, that’s the honest state of the program in that month – there aren’t always live codes. The dry months happen and they’re normal. Riot doesn’t run a continuous code drip; it runs codes around events.

How to know if a code is genuinely live before you paste it

Three filters that take 20 seconds and save the “why did the client just reject this” frustration:

  • Source. Was the code posted on the League of Legends official news hub, a Riot regional Twitter, or a verified LolEsports channel? If yes, redeem it. If the code came from a YouTube comment, a generator site, or a Reddit thread with no Riot link, do not bother – it’s either fake or already burned.
  • Region. Codes are often locked to the region they were dropped in (EUW codes in EUW, NA codes in NA, BR codes in BR). The client returns “invalid” without telling you the reason, so the wrong-region failure looks identical to an expired code.
  • Format. Real Riot codes are alphanumeric, usually 8-16 characters, sometimes hyphenated. They are not 40-character base64 strings, they are not 12-digit numeric receipts, and they are not URLs.
SUPERZOMGBBQ breaks it down.

How to redeem codes in the LoL client

The path is buried two clicks deeper than it should be, which is why a fresh wave of “how do I enter a code” searches hits Google every event window. Here it is in the cleanest form:

  1. Open the League of Legends client and log in.
  2. Click Store at the top of the client.
  3. In the Store window, click the Account button at the top-right corner.
  4. Click Redeem Codes.
  5. Paste the code exactly as written – codes are case-sensitive and hyphens count.
  6. Click Submit.

If the code works, the reward attaches to your account immediately. Cosmetic items (icons, emotes, ward skins) appear in your collection. Bundled rewards like champion shards land in Loot. Mythic Essence rewards go straight into your Mythic Essence balance with no animation – check the count before and after if you’re not sure it landed.

If the code fails, the client returns “Invalid Code” and that’s the entire diagnostic. Run through the three filters above (source, region, format), then try again. If all three look right and the code still bounces, it’s almost certainly expired or already-burned-on-this-account.

What codes actually give you in 2026

This is the section that disappoints people, so let’s be direct. The realistic reward ceiling of a 2026 LoL code is:

  • Common: a summoner icon, an emote, a ward skin, or a small Blue Essence drop (1,000 to 5,000 BE).
  • Mid-tier: a Hextech key, a single Hextech chest, an Eternals set, or 50-200 Mythic Essence on event anniversaries.
  • Rare: a full champion shard, a permanent champion unlock for a returning player, or a skin shard. These almost always come from in-game missions, not from typed codes, but the missions sometimes attach via Twitch link rather than a code paste, which blurs the line.
  • Not happening: free RP, free skins-on-demand, free Mythic Chromas, or any code-based bypass of the store. Stop searching for it.

The ranked rewards (Victorious skin, ranked emote, end-of-split borders) are a completely separate system from codes – those come from the full Iron-to-Challenger ranks breakdown doing its thing and you hitting the win threshold inside the split. We cover that path in the season rewards guide rather than here, because codes have no overlap with the ranked-reward track.

Expired LoL codes archive (so you stop pasting these)

The list below is the codes the community catalogued from past events that have since expired. They no longer work in the client. We’re publishing the archive specifically because the long-tail SERP for “lol code [old event name]” is dominated by stale pages that imply the codes still work – landing here and confirming the code is dead is the answer you were probably looking for.

Code (or campaign) Reward at drop Status
Worlds 2025 Pick’em viewership chain Worlds 2025 summoner icon + emote Expired – Worlds 2025 window closed
MSI 2025 viewership missions MSI 2025 icon Expired – MSI 2025 window closed
Anniversary 2024 summoner icon code 15th anniversary icon Expired – 2024 anniversary window closed
Project Skyline icon drop (regional) Project Skyline summoner icon Expired – drop window closed
Sentinels of Light event chain (2021) Sentinels icon set Expired – event closed years ago
“Free RP” codes circulated on YouTube generators Nothing – these were never real codes Never worked – ignore

The pattern: event codes live inside the event window, expire roughly 30-60 days after the event closes, and are gone for good. There is no archive of “old codes Riot forgot to expire” that still pays out. The community would have found it years ago.

Codes won’t carry your climb

Worth saying out loud because the codes search overlaps with players hunting for fast progression: redeem codes give you cosmetics, not a competitive edge. They don’t unlock champions you couldn’t earn through Blue Essence, they don’t boost your LP gains, they don’t change your MMR, and they don’t shorten the path to a ranked split reward. If you’re searching for codes because you want to climb faster, the codes are not the lever.

The actual climb levers are champion-pool discipline, queue timing, and getting out of the divisions that are bleeding your hours. If the grind isn’t moving and you want the season rewards anyway, our League of Legends rank boost team runs the climb on your account with the same MMR profile, no shared sessions, and a clean Vanguard footprint. Different problem from codes, different solution, and worth knowing about because the codes search is full of people who actually want the climb fix and ended up on a cosmetics page.

Update cadence and how to know if this post is fresh

This post is on a 30-day editorial check. The active-codes table at the top is refreshed each month against the current Riot event calendar; the expired archive grows on the same schedule as codes drop and die. The date at the top of the page is the last editorial pass. If you’re reading this more than two months after that date, the active-codes table is the section most likely to be stale – check the League of Legends official news hub for whatever event is live right now and cross-check codes from there.

The “what codes do” and “how to redeem” sections age much slower – those have been the same since Riot last shipped a major client refactor and aren’t expected to change before the next ranked season rolls in.

Frequently asked questions

Are there working LoL codes right now?

Sometimes. The active set rotates monthly. Riot drops codes around Worlds, MSI, the LoL anniversary, and occasional regional events. Most expire 30-60 days after the event window closes. Check the active-codes table at the top of this post and the date next to it – if the date is more than 30 days old, treat the table as a starting point and confirm against the official news hub.

Can you still get free RP from codes?

No. Riot retired the public RP-code program around 2017. Any site, video, or generator promising free RP in 2026 is either pushing a survey scam, harvesting account logins, or rehashing screenshots from the legacy era. (Players have been calling these out for years, like this r/leagueoflegends PSA on a free-RP-code scam site.) There is no in-client path to free RP outside of Riot-run giveaways tied to your linked account – and those don’t use a typed code.

How do you redeem codes in League of Legends?

Open the client, click Store at the top, click the Account button at the top-right of the Store window, click Redeem Codes, paste the code exactly as written, and click Submit. Codes are case-sensitive and often region-locked – an EUW code will return “invalid” on NA without telling you why.

Why does my code say invalid when it should work?

Three reasons in order of frequency: the code is locked to a different region than the one your account is on, you have a case-sensitive typo, or the code has already expired. The client returns the same generic “invalid” message for all three, so it’s worth pasting the code one more time after re-reading it slowly before assuming it’s dead.

Do Twitch drops count as codes?

No – Twitch drops link the reward to your Riot account automatically when you’ve connected the two and watched a qualifying broadcast. There is no code-entry step. If you have a drop pending, the reward arrives in your client mailbox after Riot processes the entitlement, usually within a day or two of the broadcast ending.

Do these codes work in Wild Rift on mobile?

No. Wild Rift has its own separate redemption system inside the Wild Rift client. LoL PC codes don’t work in Wild Rift and vice versa. The two games share branding and some champion identities, but the backends and reward systems are separate.

If you came here for the codes and you’re staying for the climb, our let our boost team handle the climb service is the honest path forward – top-tier players running the games on your account on a clean schedule, no shared sessions, target rank locked, account back to you when it’s done. Codes are nice. The actual ranked rewards live on the other side of the LP track.
