If you spent the first month of Midnight Season 1 staring at six different item level charts trying to figure out which dungeon, raid, or PvP source actually gives you the best gear at your current rating, this is the consolidated table we wish someone had handed our roster on day one. End-of-dungeon, Great Vault, raid boss-by-boss, Conquest, Honor, delves – one page, one chart, one reference.
Headline answer: Mythic+ caps at 266 end-of-dungeon and 272 Great Vault, both at +10. Voidspire Mythic caps at 282 (Crown of the Cosmos drop). Conquest PvP gear hits 289 in arena/BG scaling. The single highest ilvl in the season is 289 (Myth track 6/6 upgrade ceiling), reachable from fully-upgraded Mythic raid or fully-upgraded Conquest gear. Below is the per-source breakdown with crest costs, track progression, and where the chart gets weird.
The three gear tracks in Midnight Season 1
Every piece of endgame gear in Midnight slots into one of three tracks: Champion, Hero, or Myth. The track determines both the base ilvl when it drops AND the ceiling the piece can be upgraded to. Cross-track upgrading isn’t a thing – you can’t push a Champion piece into Hero territory.
| Track | Base ilvl range | Upgrade ceiling | Primary sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Champion | 246-256 | 263 | M0, M+2-6 EoD, Normal raid, delve tier 7-8 |
| Hero | 259-266 | 276 | M+5-10 EoD, M+2-9 Vault, Heroic raid, Conquest base |
| Myth | 272-282 | 289 | M+10 Vault, Mythic raid, fully-upgraded Conquest in PvP |
The track structure is the cleanest thing about the gearing system. Once you know which track a piece drops on, you know its ceiling without checking any other table. The complication is that upgrade currency (Dawncrests) is gated by where you earn it – Hero Dawncrests upgrade Hero pieces, Myth Dawncrests upgrade Myth pieces, and Myth Dawncrests only drop from M+7 and above plus Mythic raid. So earning the upgrade currency for the highest-ceiling piece requires the highest-difficulty content. That’s where the climb pressure lives.
Mythic+ end-of-dungeon and Great Vault chart
This is the chart most M+ players actually want. End-of-dungeon ilvl is what drops at the end of each timed key. Great Vault is what you bank for the Sunday/Wednesday chest.
| Key level | End-of-dungeon ilvl | End-of-dungeon track | Great Vault ilvl | Great Vault track | Crests |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mythic 0 | 246 | Champion 1/6 | 256 | Champion 4/6 | Champion Dawncrest |
| +2 | 250 | Champion 2/6 | 259 | Hero 1/6 | Champion Dawncrest |
| +3 | 250 | Champion 2/6 | 259 | Hero 1/6 | Champion Dawncrest |
| +5 | 256 | Hero 1/6 | 263 | Hero 2/6 | Hero Dawncrest |
| +6 | 259 | Hero 2/6 | 266 | Hero 3/6 | Hero Dawncrest |
| +7 | 259 | Hero 2/6 | 269 | Hero 4/6 | Myth Dawncrest |
| +8 | 263 | Hero 3/6 | 269 | Hero 4/6 | Myth Dawncrest |
| +9 | 263 | Hero 3/6 | 269 | Hero 4/6 | Myth Dawncrest |
| +10 | 266 | Hero 3/6 (final) | 272 | Myth 1/6 | Myth Dawncrest |
| +12 and above | 266 | Hero 3/6 | 272 | Myth 1/6 | Myth Dawncrest (higher counts) |
Two things to internalize from that chart. First, +10 is the loot ceiling for M+. Beyond +10, end-of-dungeon stays at 266 and Vault stays at 272 (the r/CompetitiveWoW thread). You can push +12, +14, +16 and you’re farming rating, crests, and bragging rights, not higher-ilvl gear. Second, +7 is the Myth Dawncrest unlock. A clean +7 lap across all eight dungeons is the fastest way to start farming Myth crests without committing to +10 keys.
Some sources disagree on the exact +5/+6/+8 EoD ilvls. We’ve gone with the Method/Wowhead consensus above; Icy Veins’ full Midnight Season 1 item level breakdown has the second-source version. Either is close enough that you won’t notice the difference in your gear screen.
The Voidspire raid loot table
Voidspire is six bosses, structured in three wings, with Crown of the Cosmos (the Alleria Windrunner encounter) closing the raid. Loot ilvl scales per boss within a difficulty – early bosses drop a lower track point, the final boss drops the difficulty’s ceiling.
| Boss | Normal (Champion) | Heroic (Hero) | Mythic (Myth) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boss 1-2 (early) | 246 | 259 | 272 |
| Boss 3-4 (mid) | 250 | 263 | 276 |
| L’ura (boss 5) | 253 | 266 | 279 |
| Crown of the Cosmos (boss 6) | 256 | 269 | 282 |
Mythic Crown of the Cosmos drops 282 (Myth 4/6) – the highest direct boss drop in the game. Add four Myth Dawncrest upgrades on top and you push that piece to 289 (Myth 6/6 ceiling). The same ceiling applies to a Conquest piece pushed to 289 in PvP scaling, but the Conquest version doesn’t function at 289 in PvE – the rating-scaling only fires in arena and battleground content.
For per-boss item drops (weapons, trinkets, tier tokens), Wowhead’s Voidspire raid loot guide has the comprehensive list. We’re staying on track-and-ilvl ground here; the per-slot dropdowns deserve their own page.
The Dreamrift and March on Quel’Danas
Midnight ships three raids in Season 1, not one. The Dreamrift (one boss) and March on Quel’Danas (two bosses) fill in the alternate weekly raid slot. Their loot tracks are identical to Voidspire’s:
- The Dreamrift – one boss, Normal 256 / Heroic 269 / Mythic 282. Same loot ceiling as Crown of the Cosmos but with a smaller drop pool.
- March on Quel’Danas – two bosses, drops scale per-boss the same way as Voidspire (early boss 250 Normal, final boss 256 Normal; +13 Heroic; +26 Mythic).
The cross-raid math matters because of weekly lockouts. Each raid is its own lockout, so a player who clears Voidspire Mythic on Tuesday can still clear Dreamrift Mythic on Thursday for additional Myth Dawncrest progress. Most progression guilds run the Voidspire main raid Tuesday, then Dreamrift Friday as a “crest farm” night.
PvP gear: Conquest and Honor in Midnight Season 1
PvP gear in Midnight scales differently from PvE gear. The base ilvl printed on the piece isn’t what it functions at in PvP – the gear scales upward inside arenas and battlegrounds via the rating-scaling system. Here’s how it shakes out.
| Source | Base ilvl (PvE) | PvP scaling cap | Currency | How to earn |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Galactic Aspirant (Honor) | 217 | 276 in arena/BG | Honor (uncapped) | Win any rated or unrated PvP match |
| Galactic Gladiator (Conquest) | 246 | 289 in arena/BG | Conquest (weekly cap) | Win any rated PvP match (rated only) |
| Crafted PvP gear | 263 base | 289 in arena/BG | Crafting | Spark of Omens + Hallowed Crests |
The Conquest weekly cap structure: 1,600 in week 1, 2,200 in week 2, 3,000 in week 3, escalating by 800 each week. By week 4-5 you can pretty much cap a full Galactic Gladiator set if you’re committed. Conquest gear is the BiS for arena/BG play – 289 in PvP scaling matches Mythic-raid Myth-track gear inside PvP content.
The Honor track is the catch-up. New PvP characters can grind Honor uncapped to fill in any Conquest gear they haven’t earned. A full Honor set scales to 276 in arena/BG – good enough for Combatant and Challenger climbing, not enough for serious Duelist or Gladiator push. For a fast track to capped Conquest each week without grinding queues, our Conquest gear farm service handles the weekly cap and gear conversion in one session.
Where the best gear by slot actually drops
Item level is one thing. Slot quality is another. Some sources are simply better for some slots regardless of ilvl, because the items themselves are tuned differently. This is where most “should I prioritize raid or M+ this week” decisions actually get made.
| Slot | Best PvE source (Season 1) | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Tier set (head/shoulders/chest/gloves/legs) | Voidspire Heroic/Mythic + Catalyst | Tier pieces only drop from raid bosses or get Catalyst-converted from non-tier slots. Catalyst charges are the gating factor for the 4-set. |
| Weapons | M+10 Vault or Mythic Voidspire | Vault gives 272 ilvl weapons reliably from any +10. Mythic raid gives 282. Pick whichever you can clear consistently. |
| Trinkets | Mythic+ pool | Several BiS trinkets this season drop from M+ dungeon bosses (Pit of Saron and Skyreach trinkets are the standouts). Raid trinkets exist but tend to be situational. |
| Rings | Mythic+ Vault or Voidspire Heroic+ | Ring slot benefits most from the Vault three-option roll – pick a tertiary-stat set |
| Neck | Voidspire (any difficulty) | Stat profile on the raid neck this season beats the M+ neck for most specs |
| Cloak | Mythic+ pool (cloak from Algeth’ar Academy 3rd boss) | Tuned BiS for most DPS specs |
| Belt / wrists / boots | Either – whichever you find first | Slot doesn’t have a clear winner; gear up whichever drops |
If you’d rather skip the source-shopping and just lock in the gear you need, our Mythic+ dungeon boost runs include slot-specific keystone routing – if you need a trinket from Skyreach specifically, that’s the key we’ll prioritize.
Delves and the catch-up gear track
Delves are the gear-floor system for Midnight, the way World Quests were the catch-up system in older expansions. Each tier scales up the difficulty and the reward.
| Delve tier | Reward ilvl (Restored Coffer) | Vault contribution | Recommended player ilvl |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1-3 | 220-235 | None | Fresh 90s |
| Tier 4 | 240 | 250 Vault | ~640 ilvl |
| Tier 6 | 246 | 259 Vault | ~650 ilvl |
| Tier 7 | 250 | 263 Vault | ~655 ilvl |
| Tier 8 (Bountiful) | 250 | 269 Vault | ~660 ilvl |
Tier 8 Bountiful Delves are the gear floor that gets you into +7 M+ keys. Vault contribution of 269 from delves is honestly insane value relative to time invested – 35 minutes of solo content for what would take 90 minutes of group M+ at the equivalent tier. Most non-raiders should run their three weekly Vault delves on Tuesday before doing anything else. Delves don’t get covered in our full Mythic+ system guide because delves aren’t M+, but the gear floor question they answer is the same one – “what gets me into +7 keys.”
How to plan a gear week
Pulling the tables above into a practical Tuesday-to-Tuesday schedule for an active player who isn’t a high-end raider but wants their gear maxed:
Tuesday (reset day): Vault collection. Open chest, decide between the three options based on slot priority (use the slot table above). Equip whatever you take, push the old piece into the bank for upgrade later.
Tuesday or Wednesday: Three Bountiful Delves for next week’s Vault. 35 minutes per delve in a group; longer solo. Lock in the 269 Vault contribution before you do anything else.
Wednesday-Thursday: Mythic+ lap. Aim for at least four timed keys at your current ceiling (+7 if you’re climbing, +10 if you’re maintaining). Each key adds a Vault slot. If you can hit eight, full Vault is locked in for next week.
Thursday-Friday: Heroic Voidspire clear, if you’re in a raiding guild. Drop the raid early in the week so you have time for a Mythic prog night Sunday/Monday.
Sunday/Monday: Mythic Voidspire prog if you’re in a Mythic guild. Otherwise, cleanup keys for the Vault, push +12s if you’re chasing Hero, or take the night off (this also counts).
If you’re not in a raiding guild and want raid-level gear without recruiting one, our WoW PvE boost team runs Voidspire Heroic and Mythic carries every week. You bring the character; we bring the 19 other players who’ve cleared the raid this week.
Frequently asked questions
What’s the absolute highest item level achievable in Midnight Season 1?
289. Reachable from a Mythic Voidspire drop (282 base) upgraded fully through Myth Dawncrests (six upgrade tiers, +1 to +7 per tier). Same ceiling applies to fully-upgraded Conquest PvP gear, but Conquest scales to 289 only in PvP – it doesn’t function at 289 in PvE content.
Where do you get Myth Dawncrests in Midnight Season 1?
M+7 and above, plus Mythic Voidspire bosses. Per-run drops are roughly 10-20 Myth Dawncrests depending on key level and number of dungeon bosses. Higher keys give more crests, not higher ilvl loot, which is why pushing past +10 still has value if you’re upgrading multiple Myth pieces.
Is M+ or raid better for getting BiS gear?
Both, for different slots. Raid has the tier set, the neck, and one or two weapons. M+ has most of the BiS trinkets, the BiS cloak this season, and consistent Vault-tier weapons via +10 timed keys. The maxed-out gear set this season pulls from both sources, not one or the other.
Why does my Conquest gear look weak in M+?
Because PvP gear scales upward in PvP content, not in PvE. The 246 base ilvl on a Galactic Gladiator piece is the number M+ uses for damage and survivability. The 289 number only applies inside arenas and battlegrounds. If you’re PvE-focused, treat Conquest gear as cosmetic transmog or as catch-up for slots you can’t fill from PvE drops.
How many Hero Dawncrests do I need to fully upgrade a Hero piece?
Roughly 90 Hero Dawncrests for a full 1/6 to 6/6 upgrade (15 crests per upgrade tier, with the cost scaling slightly at higher tiers). A clean +7 lap across all eight dungeons in a single week gives you 80-100 crests, which is enough to fully upgrade one Hero piece per week. Myth crests follow the same pattern – 80-120 Myth crests for a full Myth upgrade.
Will Season 2 reset the gear track?
Partially. The ilvl ceiling will increase in Season 2 (historically +13 to +20 ilvl per season), and the Champion/Hero/Myth track names usually persist while the ilvl numbers shift up. Your Season 1 gear will still be there, it’ll just be replaced quickly by even the catch-up gear from Season 2. Don’t grind Season 1 BiS unless you specifically want the achievement or the seasonal mount tied to it.
If you’d rather hit a specific ilvl target without juggling four sources and a spreadsheet, the boost team queues these keys, raids, and Conquest sessions every week. Drop your character and target ilvl and we’ll route to the most efficient source mix for the gap you’re closing.
