This is the agent tier list as it actually plays out in current ranked, sorted by role, with the picks that hold up across patches and the ones that drop a tier the second the meta turns.

We’re tracking 24 agents across five roles (Duelist, Initiator, Controller, Sentinel, and the role-flex picks that don’t fit cleanly). The list reflects the agent’s win rate at Diamond and above in current patch, weighted by pick frequency – because a 56% win rate on an agent played in 4% of games means less than a 53% They scale with both team coordination and solo carry potential, which is what S-tier means – they don’t need a five-stack to be valuable.

Jett (Duelist). The original entry agent and still the agent that wins ranked games solo. Updraft + dash kit gives her the angles that win 1v1s before the duel starts. Even after the dash nerfs, Jett carries Plat-to-Immortal lobbies because the kit is forgiving.

Omen (Controller). The smokes-anywhere kit that lets you take map control without giving up the lurk threat. Omen mains hit Immortal at roughly 1.3x the rate of Brimstone mains in current patch.

KAY/O (Initiator). Suppression on Knife into a flash combo deletes Chamber, Reyna, and Yoru utility. The agent who exists to make ability-dependent kits cry, and the meta is full of ability-dependent kits.

Cypher (Sentinel). Cypher’s info economy is unmatched right now. Trip lines, cage, camera – you’re playing five rounds with map information no one else on your team has. Solo queue dream.

For new players unsure where to start the role-pool grind, we’d default to Omen and learn smoke discipline first – Controller is the role with the lowest skill floor and the most permanent value. For a walkthrough of how Valorant’s competitive system actually works, our Valorant ranks explained guide covers the climb path.

SC Valorant Guides breaks it down.

A-tier: meta-relevant but role-dependent

Agents who are genuinely strong in 2-3 maps and average on the rest, or whose value scales hard with a teammate who plays a specific complement. Pickable at every rank; not autopicks.

Raze (Duelist) – the second-best entry Duelist behind Jett. The satchel mobility tools clear angles Jett can’t reach. Plays differently on every map – master Raze for Bind and Ascent, leave her on a few others.

Sova (Initiator) – the original info-Initiator, still strong on the bigger maps. Recon dart + shock dart is the most-tested utility combo in the game. The reason he’s A-tier and not S is that KAY/O suppresses his entire kit.

Viper (Controller) – the post-plant queen on Breeze and Icebox. On other maps she’s a niche pick. If your map pool includes those two, Viper jumps to S for you specifically.

Killjoy (Sentinel) – the lock-down sentinel for sites you can hold from a single corner. Lockdown ult is still the strongest defensive ult in the game post-plant.

Phoenix (Duelist) – the comeback pick. Heal kit + ult lets him solo-clear sites with no team support. Underrated at low ranks, fairly rated at Immortal.

Skye (Initiator) – flash dog + heal kit. Strong on attack-sided pushes; weaker on defense. The Initiator most likely to win the round by herself if her flashes land.

B-tier: situational but viable

These agents have a role on the team if you draft around them but can’t be your one-trick. Most have one matchup or map where they pop and several where they fade.

Brimstone (Controller) – the safety pick for new Controller players. Smokes are easier to use than Omen’s, but the lack of mobility means you can’t reposition after smoking. Drop him as soon as you’re comfortable with Omen.

Sage (Sentinel) – the wall + heal kit that wins eco rounds and loses regular rounds. Sage is the agent everyone instalocks at low ranks and the agent who disappears from comp at Immortal and above.

Breach (Initiator) – flash + stun + ult. Insane on the chokepoint maps (Ascent, Bind). Niche outside those. Pair with a coordinated Duelist who actually swings the flashes.

Yoru (Duelist) – the lurk Duelist. Skill ceiling is the highest in the game; floor is the lowest. Plat Yorus throw rounds; Immortal Yorus win them. Pick this if you’re committed to learning the lurk game.

Reyna (Duelist) – the carry Duelist for solo queue. Her kit gives nothing to your team and everything to herself (the r/VALORANT thread). At low ranks this works; at Immortal+, her lack of team utility makes her a B-tier pick.

C-tier: rarely picked, usually for a reason

Astra (Controller) – the global-smoke Controller that requires 100% map awareness. Has fallen out of meta hard with the Omen and Viper buffs. Pick if you’ve mained her for two years; skip otherwise.

Chamber (Sentinel) – post-nerf Chamber is functional but no longer auto-pick. The Operator-Sentinel hybrid lost too much utility to compete with Cypher or Killjoy for the lock-down role.

Neon (Duelist) – the speedster Duelist. Chamber’s Tour de Force nerf dropped him from S to C in two patches. Jett’s dash recharge nerf moved her from S to A and right back to S within an act. Direct utility nerfs cause the biggest swings.

The second is a map pool change. Breeze rotated out, and Viper dropped from S to A. Pearl rotated in, and Neon went from C to B. The agent didn’t change; the map pool did. Always check what maps are active before locking an “S-tier” pick.

The third is a counter agent getting buffed. KAY/O buffs hit Chamber, Reyna, and Yoru hardest because their kits depend on abilities Suppress shuts down. Buffing a counter is the cleanest indirect nerf and the one most lists miss.

Picking your role pool for solo queue

The fastest path through ranked is two roles, three agents total. Spreading thinner means you’re always learning instead of mastering; one agent only means you’re flexible-loss in the role-select screen when someone instalocks your main.

Recommended role pools by current player base, with our take on what actually wins ranked:

Controller + Sentinel: Omen + Cypher + Brimstone. The “I’ll fill what we need” combo that wins games via utility, not aim. Highest ceiling for solo queue grinders who don’t have hitscan aim peaks.

Duelist + Initiator: Jett + KAY/O + Raze. Carry-Duelist + flash-Initiator gives you both the aim role and the utility role to flex into. Highest skill expression.

Controller + Initiator: Omen + KAY/O + Skye. The “support carry” combo – you’re never going to top-frag but you’ll have the highest win contribution per round.

If you’d rather skip the role-grind and just have a top-bracket player carry your account to Immortal while you learn the meta on a smurf, our Valorant boosting team handles rank carries and placements across all regions.

External tools for staying current

Two sources we cross-check tier-list opinions against: Riot’s official patch notes for the canonical agent changes (avoid the YouTube patch-rundown drama, read the actual notes), and Blitz.gg’s agent stats for the live pick rate and win rate per rank. If a tier list disagrees with both, the tier list is wrong.

Frequently asked questions

Who is the best Duelist in Valorant right now?

Jett, by a measurable margin. Win rate, pick rate, and tournament representation all put her at the top. Raze is the second-best entry option and the right pick on Bind and Ascent specifically.

Is Chamber still good?

Functional, not autopick. The Operator nerfs took away the trade he used to win every duel and the kit fell behind Cypher and Killjoy for the Sentinel role. Pick Chamber if you main him; otherwise grab Cypher.

What’s the best agent for solo queue?

Cypher for the info utility and Omen for the smoke flexibility. Both reward solo decision-making and don’t depend on coordinated teammates. Reyna’s a popular answer to this question and the wrong one above Plat.

Should I main one agent or play multiple?

Two agents in your main role, one flex in a secondary role. Three agents total covers 90% of role-select situations and lets you actually master each pick. Five-agent role pools spread you too thin to climb.

How often does the Valorant tier list change?

Significantly every 2-3 patches; minor shifts every patch. The map pool rotation also changes the tier list without any agent changes. Reread your tier list every 6-8 weeks.

What’s the best Controller for new players?

Brimstone for the first 50 hours, then transition to Omen. Brimstone’s smokes are static and easy to learn the lineups for; Omen’s smokes require positioning and timing but reward you with much more flexibility once mastered.

A tier list is a snapshot, not a fixed truth. The agents on S today might be A in two patches, and the C-tier picks have all been S at some point in Valorant’s history. So lean on the method over the exact order: pick agents that match your aim style, keep a role pool that gives you flex options, and check the patch notes before you commit to your next 100-hour main.

The current Valorant agent tier list ranked by Diamond+ pick rate and win rate.
