What is Overwatch League?

OWL is the premier professional esports league for Overwatch, organized by Blizzard Entertainment. The league is considered as the first 'global professional esports league featuring franchised teams representing cities from all around the world. In the series Overwatch League Power Rankings 2021 we will cover both divisions in 2 different articles and the league as a whole in a third article. If you are an Overwatch and Esports fan you will be better informed about who has the best odds to win Overwatch League!

S Tier - Shanghai Dragons

What happened to Shanghai Dragons? During season 1 of the Overwatch League, Shanghai Dragons went on a 0-40 streak, going even further in season 2 to a 0-42. This lose streak became worldwide famous not only in esports but also sports. No team from any esport or sport had such a bad record in history. The team owner added some Overwatch coaching staff and new players and the team got a considerable Overwatch boost. These improvements turned the team into the kings of the Overwatch League pacific region. Shanghai Dragons is the best team in the APAC. This is the best redemption arc in Esports not only the Dragons dominated its own region winning multiple titles they also had a record overall stats in Season 3. Going to season 4 they managed to lock their best players and even threw some extra cash to get the likes of Joon “Erster” Jeong and Pan-seung “Fate” Koo. Seriously this team is boosting a scaring roster and they are not just contenders in the region. We are talking about a team that can win it all. We are talking about the possible champions of the Overwatch League season 4.

A Tier - Seoul Dynasty

My personal favorites in season 1, this team had everything to build a Dynasty but they couldn’t find their top form for three seasons in a row. Seoul Dynasty had many legendary players like Jinhyuk "Miro" Gong that was considered one of the best Winston players in the game and the legendary Ana player Jehong “ryujehong Ryu. After some disappointing teams, Seoul added some new gamechanger Overwatch coaching with the likes of Changgeun Park and Seong-won Mun and that is when things started to slowly improve to get to this point where I can safely say they are one of the best teams in APAC. They have put such a show in season 3 with their special signature team composition that they created a new meta that was later used by other teams in the Overwatch League playoffs. Another good reason to believe this team will be strong in this region is the fact that they are maintaining their core players.

A Tier - New York Excelsior

NYXL is one of the most famous franchises in Overwatchl League. They consistently boost good performances and they are also famous for their fashion brand. The team suffered greatly with COVID last year having to relocate to South Korea where they maintained a top 3 position throughout the season. While they did manage to secure Sung-hyeon “JJoNak” Bang one of the best players in the world in their roster everyone else is essentially new. The best pickup is without a dobut Seung-hyun “Ivy'' Lee the previous star from Philadelphia Fusion. I believe in this team potential but for now it’s just that. The team will need a big Overwatch coaching staff in order to boost their performances in Overwatch.
