A Prestige skin is the white-and-gold edition of a League skin that you cannot buy with RP. There is no add-to-cart button for LoL prestige skins: you either finish the current act’s paid Battle Pass, or you spend 150 Mythic Essence in the Mythic Shop, and Riot does not sell Mythic Essence for money. That one detail is why nobody can quote you a clean price. Below is the currency path end to end, the real cash-and-time cost of every route, which Prestige skins you can still get, and a straight answer on whether the pass is worth buying when you want exactly one skin.
We are a boost team and we spend a lot of hours on accounts sitting mid-pass, so the question we field more than any other is some version of “how much essence is that skin, actually.” Every figure below comes from Riot’s support pages and the League of Legends wiki, checked August 2026, and any dollar amount attached to Mythic Essence is our arithmetic rather than a price Riot publishes. For the other end of the cosmetics market, our rundown of what League’s genuinely expensive skins cost handles the four-hundred-dollar shelf.
What a Prestige skin actually is
Prestige describes how you get the skin, not how much work went into it. A Prestige skin is built to Epic standards: new model, textures, splash art, animations and visual effects, finished in the gold-and-white prestige treatment. It does not get the ground-up voice-over rework that defines a Legendary, and nothing like the evolving forms of an Ultimate. What makes it feel special is that RP cannot touch it.
Prestige skins also used to be forced recolours, because every one of them had to sit on top of an existing Epic-tier base skin. Since patch 14.24 that dependency is gone, and Riot now ships two distinct families. Mythic Prestiges go straight into the Mythic Shop for Mythic Essence and follow event themes. Battle Pass Prestiges are the top reward on the paid Battle Pass, follow the season’s theme, and do not launch into the Mythic Shop at all. If you have been telling people that prestige skins are just gold recolours, that stopped being true a while ago.
Prestige vs Epic, Legendary and Ultimate
Prestige sits beside the RP ladder rather than above it. Everything up to Ultimate has a shelf price, and everything from Mythic upward is gated behind a currency you cannot buy. Prices and tier definitions below are from the League of Legends wiki’s champion skin page, checked August 2026.
| Tier | Cost | What you actually get |
|---|---|---|
| Timeworn / Budget / Standard | 520, 750 or 975 RP | Texture and model changes, new splash, sometimes light new effects |
| Epic | 1350 RP, about $10.75 | New model, textures, splash, animations, VFX and SFX, sometimes processed voice |
| Legendary | 1820 RP, about $14.49 | Everything Epic has plus a full new voice-over and a rebuilt kit feel |
| Ultimate | 3250 RP, about $25.88 | Evolving forms, multiple models, full voice-over, bonus content |
| Mythic | 125 Mythic Essence | Epic-quality work, Mythic Shop only, bi-weekly rotation |
| Prestige | 150 Mythic Essence, or the paid Battle Pass | Epic-quality work in the gold-and-white prestige treatment |
| Exalted | 80 Ancient Sparks guaranteed, up to 32,000 RP | Multiple forms with distinct models, effects and voice-over |
Dollar conversions use North American RP pricing of 1,380 RP for $10.99, per the wiki’s RP table checked August 2026, and they assume the RP is already sitting in your account. You cannot buy exactly 1,350 RP, which is a small and very deliberate piece of design.
The currency path, end to end
Mythic Essence has no store page, which is what makes the price of a Prestige skin so hard to pin down. There are three real taps, and they run at wildly different speeds.
The paid Battle Pass hands out Mythic Essence directly, roughly 25 to 33 per act depending on which act you look at. The wiki lists 25 as the standard paid-track grant; Riot’s support page for Season 3 Act I lists 33. Either way, one pass is a fraction of one Prestige skin.
Hextech Chests are the slow drip. Riot’s Hextech Crafting FAQ puts it at a 3.6% chance of dropping 10 Mythic Essence as a bonus alongside a chest’s normal contents, and the wiki’s Mythic Essence page tracks the same rate. Run that out and each chest averages about 0.36 essence, which means roughly 417 chests to fund one 150-essence Prestige skin. That is our arithmetic on Riot’s published drop rate rather than a Riot figure, and it explains why nobody farms essence from chests on purpose.
The Sanctum is League’s gacha, documented on Riot’s own Sanctum page, and it runs on Ancient Sparks at 400 RP each, about $3.19 apiece. Its B-tier pool, 89.5% of pulls, drops Mythic Essence in chunks of 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100, plus 2 essence whenever an icon or emote you already own turns up. It is the fastest way to accumulate essence and the worst value in the game for it, since you are paying Exalted-skin prices for a consolation currency. Pity on an Exalted banner lands at 80 pulls, capping out around 32,000 RP. Nobody sane opens the Sanctum for essence.
Where prestige points went
If you are searching for prestige points, you are looking at a system that has been dead for four years. Prestige Points arrived in patch 9.1, cost 100 per Prestige skin, and came from event passes and milestone missions. Riot retired them in patch 12.5 and replaced them with Mythic Essence in 12.6, and leftover 2020 balances expired in January 2022 after a farewell sale. So 100 prestige points became 150 Mythic Essence, and that currency now also buys Mythic skins, chromas, ward skins, emotes and Nexus finishers.
What one Prestige skin really costs, by route
A Prestige skin costs 150 Mythic Essence in the Mythic Shop, or one completed paid Battle Pass. Those two routes cost radically different amounts of money and time, which is the part the search results keep skipping.
| Route | Cash | Time | What you end up with | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Current act’s paid Battle Pass | 1,650 RP, about $13.14 of RP, or $15.98 if you have to buy a 1,380 and a 575 pack | Roughly 3 to 5 weeks of steady play | That act’s Battle Pass Prestige, plus 25 to 33 essence and the rest of the 48-milestone track | You get the skin Riot picked, on the champion Riot picked |
| Mythic Shop, new featured Prestige | 150 Mythic Essence, which Riot does not sell | About a calendar year of buying every paid pass | The specific skin you want, during its featured window | Six acts a year at 25 to 33 essence each is 150 to 200 essence, so a year of passes funds one skin |
| Mythic Shop, returning Prestige | 150 Mythic Essence | Whenever it rotates back in | An older Prestige skin, same price as a brand new one | 12 items rotate bi-weekly and Riot publishes no schedule, so your champion may not appear for months |
| Sanctum pulls | $3.19 per Ancient Spark | Instant | Essence in 5 to 100 chunks on the 89.5% B-tier | Worst essence-per-dollar route in the game, by a distance |
| Hextech Chests only | Free | Years | 0.36 essence per chest on average | Roughly 417 chests for one skin, on our read of Riot’s 3.6% drop rate |
The pass timing is our arithmetic on the wiki’s published Battle Pass numbers, checked August 2026, and it holds up in practice. The main track is 48 milestones at 400 BXP each, so 19,200 BXP total. Five weekly missions at 700 BXP each plus a daily at 100 gives you 4,200 BXP a week without doing anything unusual, and a 30-minute win adds roughly 50 BXP through the repeatable objective-point mission. Play four games a day, hit your weeklies, and the track closes in about three and a half weeks. Skip a week of missions and you are staring down the last eight milestones with three days left, a specific flavour of pain we have watched people talk themselves into more than once.
If you would rather spend those weeks climbing than filling a BXP bar, that is what our League of Legends division boost team does, on your queue and your schedule. The pass grind and the ranked grind compete for the same evenings, and most people only have enough of those for one.
Which Prestige skins you can still get
Availability splits cleanly along the family line. Every Mythic Prestige released since the 14.24 revamp is still buyable at 150 essence, either featured or on the bi-weekly rotation. Every Battle Pass Prestige is gone once its act closes, and Riot has not moved any of them into the Mythic Shop. Release dates below are from the League of Legends wiki, checked August 2026.
| Skin | Family | Released | How to get it now |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prestige Magma Chamber Jax | Mythic Prestige | 29 July 2026 | Mythic Shop, 150 ME |
| MVP T1 Miss Fortune | Mythic Prestige | 8 July 2026 | Mythic Shop, 150 ME |
| Prestige Money Miser Mordekaiser | Mythic Prestige | 1 April 2026 | Mythic Shop, 150 ME |
| Prestige Winterblessed Mel | Mythic Prestige | 3 December 2025 | Mythic Shop, 150 ME |
| Prestige T1 Sylas | Mythic Prestige | 10 September 2025 | Mythic Shop, 150 ME |

| Prestige Battle Academia Qiyana | Mythic Prestige | 19 March 2025 | Mythic Shop, 150 ME |
| Prestige Mythmaker Cassiopeia | Mythic Prestige | 23 January 2025 | Mythic Shop, 150 ME |
| Prestige Magma Chamber Veigar | Battle Pass Prestige | 29 July 2026, Classic Act 1 | Paid Battle Pass, only while that act runs |
| Prestige Sinful Shores LeBlanc | Battle Pass Prestige | 10 June 2026, Pandemonium Act 2 | Window closed, not in the Mythic Shop |
| Prestige Pandemonium Shaco | Battle Pass Prestige | 29 April 2026, Pandemonium Act 1 | Window closed, not in the Mythic Shop |
| Prestige 1.0, 44 skins | Legacy, 2019 to 2022 | Prestige Point era | Only when Riot rotates one back at 150 ME |
| Prestige 2.0, 36 skins | Legacy, 2022 to 2024 | Event token era | Only when Riot rotates one back at 150 ME |
The word vaulted gets thrown around loosely here. Riot has never published a permanent do-not-return list for Prestige skins the way it has for a handful of ancient promotional skins. What exists is a rotation with no announced schedule, which feels like a vault without being one. Skins that genuinely cannot be obtained at any price are a separate category, and our guide to the rarest skins in League covers the ones that really are switched off forever.
Is the pass worth it if you want exactly one skin?
If the skin you want is this act’s Battle Pass Prestige, buy the pass. It is the only route, it costs about $13 to $16 of RP, and finishing it takes a few weeks of play you were doing anyway. That is a clean yes.
If the skin you want is in the Mythic Shop, the pass is a bad way to get it. One pass gives you 25 to 33 essence against a 150 price tag, so you are buying roughly a fifth of a skin for the price of a Legendary. Buy passes only for the acts whose Prestige skin or general rewards you actually want, bank the essence that arrives as a side effect, and wait. On a recent r/leagueoflegends thread, a new player who had saved exactly 150 essence asked whether to spend it on Money Miser Mordekaiser, a champion they do not play, and the thread gave the correct answer: do not. Essence does not expire. The shop rotates. Waiting is close to free.
The pass sells in three tiers, and people pick wrong here too: 1,650 RP for the pass, 2,650 RP for the pass plus 10 milestones and an exclusive chroma, and 3,650 RP for the pass plus 10 milestones, 25 Mythic Essence, an emote and the chroma. That extra 25 essence in the top bundle costs 2,000 RP, about $16 on its own terms. Against any other essence source that is not a terrible rate, which tells you plenty about how the other sources are tuned.
What Prestige skins do badly
The recolour complaint used to be completely fair. Every Prestige before the 14.24 revamp was a gold-and-white variant painted over an existing Epic or Legendary, so you were paying an exclusive currency for a chroma with delusions of grandeur. Newer Prestiges are standalone builds, but the visual language has not moved much, and if you do not personally like gold, a Prestige gives you nothing an Epic would not.
The pass route also only pays off if you wanted the pass. Strip out the Prestige skin and the paid track is a pile of loot with an RP price, and buying a 1,650 RP pass purely to reach one skin commits three to five weeks of play to a deadline. Miss the act’s end and the essence you earned survives, but the Battle Pass Prestige does not.
And the rotation makes waiting the correct default almost always, which is the real reason we keep telling people to sit on their essence. Twelve items refresh bi-weekly with no published calendar, so essence you spend today is essence you cannot spend on the skin that shows up in three weeks. The one exception is a featured new release, which is on a clock. Everything else comes back around.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a Prestige skin cost in League of Legends?
150 Mythic Essence in the Mythic Shop, or one completed paid Battle Pass at 1,650 RP, which is about $13 of RP at North American pricing. There is no RP price for a Prestige skin itself and Riot does not sell Mythic Essence directly.
Can I still get old Prestige skins?
Older Mythic Prestiges rotate back into the Mythic Shop at 150 Mythic Essence on a bi-weekly cycle, so yes, eventually. Riot publishes no rotation schedule, and Battle Pass Prestige skins have not returned to the shop after their act ends.
How do I get Mythic Essence in 2026?
Three sources. The paid Battle Pass grants roughly 25 to 33 per act, Hextech Chests carry a 3.6% chance of dropping 10, and the Sanctum drops it in 5 to 100 chunks on its 89.5% B-tier. There is no way to buy Mythic Essence on its own.
What happened to Prestige Points?
Riot retired them in patch 12.5 and replaced them with Mythic Essence in 12.6. A Prestige skin used to cost 100 Prestige Points; the equivalent today is 150 Mythic Essence. Leftover 2020 point balances expired in January 2022.
Are Prestige skins better than Legendary skins?
No, and it is not close on raw content. Legendary skins get a full new voice-over and a ground-up rework; Prestige skins are built to Epic standards with a gold-and-white finish. Prestige is about how few people have it, not how much is in it.
Is the Battle Pass worth buying just for the Prestige skin?
Only if you want that specific Battle Pass Prestige, because there is no other route to it. If your target is a Mythic Shop skin instead, one pass covers about a fifth of the 150-essence price, and waiting for a rotation costs you nothing.
So: Prestige is a scarcity tier built to Epic standards, it costs 150 Mythic Essence or one finished paid pass, the Battle Pass ones vanish with their act, and the Mythic Shop ones always come back. Buy the pass when you want that act’s skin, otherwise bank essence and let the rotation do the work. If you would rather spend the next few weeks moving up divisions, our League of Legends rank boost covers placements, division climbs and duo queue, and it pairs well with the Victorious skin and end-of-season rewards you have to earn.
