The unobtainable LoL skins are the ones with no path left at all: not a legacy sale, not a chest, not a code you might still find in a drawer. Black Alistar, Silver Kayle, Young Ryze, Goth Annie, the three PAX skins, King Rammus, Rusty Blitzcrank and UFO Corki all came out of a distribution channel that closed and never reopened. This page maps which skins are genuinely gone, how each was handed out, and what Riot has actually done when the community asks for them back, including the July 2026 wave of modern remakes that answered the question sideways.
These skins live on the account that claimed them, so there is no legitimate marketplace and no honest price tag to quote. Figures do circulate in old forum threads, but they are undated chatter attached to nothing verifiable, so we are leaving them out. For the pricier but still purchasable end of the collection, see the most expensive LoL skins, and the wider overview sits in our rarest LoL skins breakdown.
How a LoL skin becomes unobtainable
Five mechanisms produced every permanently gone skin in League, and telling them apart is the whole trick. A skin can be box-locked (bundled with a Collector’s Edition), convention-locked (a code card handed out at a booth), beta-locked (granted for playing a test), pulled (sold in the store, then withdrawn), or window-locked (a reward for a season or event that closed). Only one of those doors has ever been reopened.
Legacy and retired are not the same thing, and almost every argument about this topic starts there. The Legacy Vault, opened in October 2013, holds cosmetics that leave the shop but stay eligible to return. Retired skins are not in that vault, so no rotation reaches them. The League of Legends Wiki’s Legacy Vault page also notes that Victorious skins sit outside the vault entirely, which is why last season’s Victorious champion never turns up in a chest no matter how many you open.
The other closed door is the old redemption system. Community skin archives put its shutdown around 2014, and we could not find a live Riot support page confirming that, so treat the year as community-catalogued rather than official. Every date and distribution detail here is our read of the wiki’s per-champion cosmetics pages, last checked August 2026, since Riot publishes no master list of retired skins.
Every permanently unobtainable LoL skin
Here is the full registry. Every entry has no remaining legitimate path, and the “why” column is the part most lists skip.
| Skin | Released | How it was handed out | Why it is gone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black Alistar | 13 Jun 2009 | Retail Collector’s Edition pre-order | Box-locked, the boxes stopped being made |
| Young Ryze | 17 Jul 2009 | Retail Collector’s Edition pre-order | Box-locked, same closed channel |
| Goth Annie | 27 Oct 2009 | Digital Collector’s Pack | Box-locked, a planned re-sale was cancelled |
| Silver Kayle | 13 Nov 2009 | Retail Collector’s Edition | Box-locked, retail-only distribution |
| PAX Twisted Fate | 3 Sep 2009 | Code card at PAX 2009 | Convention-locked, one event only |
| PAX Jax | 26 Mar 2010 | Code cards at PAX East and Prime 2010, PAX East 2011 | Convention-locked, redemption later switched off |
| PAX Sivir | 25 Aug 2011 | Code card at PAX Prime 2011 | Convention-locked, one event only |
| King Rammus | 20 Oct 2009 | Closed Beta Test participation | Beta-locked, the test cannot happen again |
| Rusty Blitzcrank | 20 Nov 2009 | Sold in the store at 520 RP | Pulled from sale and never restored |
| UFO Corki | 1 Jan 2010 | Granted to accounts registered before 14 Jan 2010 | Window-locked, a two-week award period |
| Riot Squad Singed | 25 Jun 2010 | Riot events, meeting a Rioter, event store windows | Event-locked, last sold around PAX Prime 2011 |
| Triumphant Ryze | 31 Aug 2010 | Awarded to winners of official competition matches | Never sold, still gated behind competitive play |
| Judgment Kayle | 22 Aug 2011 | Granted for ranked play in the 2011 season | Window-locked, the season closed |
The Collector’s Edition four
Black Alistar, Young Ryze, Silver Kayle and Goth Annie are one family, not four separate stories. All four shipped inside League’s 2009 Collector’s Edition packaging: Goth Annie in the Digital Collector’s Pack, Silver Kayle in the retail Collector’s Edition, Black Alistar and Young Ryze tied to pre-ordering the retail box. Black Alistar was also, by release date, the first non-Classic champion skin League ever released, which is most of where the mystique comes from. Nobody knows how many accounts hold it, because Riot has never published a number.
Goth Annie has the twist. The wiki records a bundle planned to celebrate her visual update, on the reasoning that the Collector’s Edition was long outdated, then cancelled before shipping, which made her “the first skin sale to ever be denied to the public.” That is the closest thing to a written Riot position on this family. They thought about it, and they did not do it.
The PAX trio and the convention-code model
PAX Twisted Fate is the one people mean when they say “the rarest skin in League,” and the mechanism explains why: a code card handed out at Penny Arcade Expo 2009 and nowhere else. PAX Jax ran across three events, PAX East and PAX Prime 2010 plus PAX East 2011, which quietly makes it the least scarce of the three. PAX Sivir came from PAX Prime 2011 alone. The wiki’s phrasing on all three is unusually blunt for a community page: each “has not, is not and will never be available for purchase in the store.” The convention model died with the code system, and there is no lost-code redemption path, so anything claiming otherwise describes a system that does not exist.
Rusty Blitzcrank and King Rammus
Rusty Blitzcrank is the strangest entry here, the only skin Riot ever sold normally and then took back off the shelf. It launched at 520 RP in November 2009 and, per the wiki, remains the only non-legacy skin removed from the store, most likely because it sat roughly one texture away from base Blitzcrank. Retiring a product for being insufficiently different from the free version is not a move you see twice.
King Rammus is the purest form of “you had to be there.” It went to players in the original Closed Beta Test, with a later grant tied to a regional beta. No purchase, no code card, just presence at a moment that cannot recur. We run climbs across a lot of League accounts, and every so often a returning player’s collection screen has a King Rammus sitting in it untouched since roughly 2011, because they stopped playing Rammus and never realised they were carrying a beta artifact.
Judgment Kayle, Victorious and Championship: when only specific years are gone
These three families work differently from the code skins, and conflating them is the most common mistake on this topic. They are annual rewards, so each individual year closes while the line keeps producing.
Judgment Kayle, sometimes spelled Judgement Kayle, is the ancestor of the idea: released in August 2011 and granted to accounts that put in a qualifying amount of ranked play across the 2011 season. The wiki does not pin the exact game threshold and neither will we. Victorious skins picked up the format and have run every season since, and because they sit outside the Legacy Vault, past Victorious champions never return. The current season’s skin is a different situation entirely, and our guide to LoL season rewards covers the win count and Honor requirement attached to it.
Championship skins are the messiest family. Worlds 2012 Riven is the only one ever classified as Limited Edition; every Championship and Worlds skin since is Legacy, so they rotate back around the World Championship rather than disappearing. One year is gone, the rest are seasonal, and with Worlds 2026 running from mid October that rotation window is about to open again.
If the Victorious skin is why you clicked on a rare-skin article, it needs a rank finish and a win count rather than luck, which makes it the one collectible here that responds to effort. Our League of Legends division climb team runs that grind on your own account when the ladder refuses to cooperate.
Gone forever or might return: what Riot has actually done
To answer “will Riot bring these back,” look at what they have already done rather than what they have said.
| Skin or family | Status | What Riot has actually done |
|---|---|---|
| Collector’s Edition four | Gone | Shipped separate modern versions in the 29 Jul 2026 League Classic wave, including Black Alistar Modern and Goth Annie Modern; the originals were untouched |
| PAX trio | Gone | Built new skins instead: Neo PAX Sivir (2017) and Neo PAX Jax (2023), the latter alongside Jax’s visual update |
| Rusty Blitzcrank | Gone | Answered with Rustier Blitzcrank and Rustiest Blitzcrank on 29 Jul 2026, a joke aimed squarely at collectors |
| King Rammus | Gone | Nothing; the beta cannot be re-run |
| UFO Corki, Judgment Kayle | Gone | Nothing; both windows closed permanently |
| Riot Squad Singed | Gone from sale | Handed the event-giveaway role to Riot K-9 Nasus after 2011 |
| Triumphant Ryze | Gated, not gone | Still awarded through official competition wins rather than sold |
| Grey Warwick, Medieval Twitch | Came back | Refer-A-Friend ended 5 Sep 2015 and both moved to Honor level 5 capsules, the clearest proof a “gone” skin can return |
| Worlds 2012 Riven | Original gone | Released Reignited Worlds 2012 Riven on 25 Sep 2016 and gave original owners a special loading-screen border |
| Worlds 2013 onward | Legacy | Rotate back around the World Championship each year |
| Past Victorious skins | Gone | Kept exempt from the Legacy Vault, so they cannot rotate |
The pattern in that table is the answer to “give us Black Alistar.” Riot builds a new skin that nods at the old one and leaves the original alone: Neo PAX Sivir in 2017, Neo PAX Jax in 2023, then the Modern set that arrived with the Season 3 and League Classic launch on 29 July 2026. Even the Reignited Riven exception fits, since original owners got a border that marked them as the ones who were there in 2012.
The rarity ranking, and the reasoning behind it
Most rarity lists are vibes. This one is population math: the smaller and more one-off the eligible group, the rarer the skin, regardless of how it looks. No account counts exist, so the ranking is built on how narrow each door was.
| # | Skin | Why it sits here |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | PAX Twisted Fate | One convention, one year, physical code cards, no online path at all |
| 2 | PAX Sivir | Same model, single event, but a later and better-attended era of PAX |
| 3 | Silver Kayle | Physical retail box in a year when almost nobody bought League at retail |
| 4 | Black Alistar | Retail box plus a pre-order requirement, which narrows the pool twice |
| 5 | Young Ryze | Same pre-order box, less demand, so fewer people bothered claiming it |
| 6 | PAX Jax | Three separate PAX events, so the widest of the convention skins |
| 7 | King Rammus | Closed beta only, tiny population, but larger than a single booth queue |
| 8 | Goth Annie | Digital pack, easier to buy than the retail box, larger eligible group |
| 9 | Riot Squad Singed | Multiple events across two years plus limited store windows |
| 10 | Rusty Blitzcrank | Openly sold for a stretch, so anyone with 520 RP could have it |
| 11 | UFO Corki | Free to every account registered before the cutoff, a big group by 2010 standards |
| 12 | Judgment Kayle | A whole season’s ranked population, easily the largest pool on this list |
Triumphant Ryze sits outside the ranking on purpose. It is scarcer than most of these, but the competitive route that grants it still exists, which makes it gated rather than closed.
Rarity is not quality, and the mystique is mostly scarcity
Most of these skins are not good, which is the part a nostalgia post usually skips. Black Alistar and Silver Kayle are recolours. Rusty Blitzcrank was retired for sitting too close to the base model, which is a formal admission that it was not doing much. Young Ryze and Goth Annie are 2009 art on champions rebuilt visually since, so they can look worse than the free base skin on a modern client. Released today at 975 RP, several would land in the bottom tier of any patch’s lineup.
What they carry is a timestamp. A King Rammus says the account predates most of the champion roster, and a PAX skin says somebody stood in a convention line in 2009. That is a social signal rather than a cosmetic one, and the two get confused constantly, including in the recurring r/leagueoflegends threads cataloguing unobtainable skins, where the answers always mix genuine retired content with skins that are merely vaulted. If you want a collection that looks impressive in champion select, the modern Prestige and Legendary tiers do far more work.
The second caveat is that this list describes a policy rather than a law. Grey Warwick and Medieval Twitch spent years on “unobtainable” lists before Honor capsules reopened them. Riot re-routed a reward once and can do it again, so any article calling a skin gone forever, this one included, is really saying nothing has changed yet.
Frequently asked questions
Which is the rarest unobtainable LoL skin?
PAX Twisted Fate, because it came from code cards handed out at a single convention in 2009 with no online distribution at all. Silver Kayle and Black Alistar are the usual runners-up, both tied to physical 2009 Collector’s Edition boxes.
Can you still get Black Alistar in 2026?
No. It was tied to the retail Collector’s Edition pre-order and has never returned through the store, chests or any event. Riot released Black Alistar Modern with the League Classic launch on 29 July 2026, but that is a separate skin.
Is Silver Kayle still rare?
Yes, and arguably rarer than Black Alistar, since it required the physical retail Collector’s Edition in a year when almost nobody bought League in a box. The wiki records one exception where Riot granted it outside that channel.
Do unobtainable skins ever drop from chests or orbs?
No. Retired skins are not in the Legacy Vault, and Victorious skins are explicitly exempt from it, so neither appears in loot, rerolls or mystery gifts. Chests only return Legacy content.
Has Riot ever re-released a permanently unavailable skin?
Once, in modified form: Reignited Worlds 2012 Riven arrived in September 2016 as a separate skin, with original owners given a loading-screen border. Grey Warwick and Medieval Twitch also returned after Refer-A-Friend ended in 2015, moving to Honor level 5 capsules.
What League skins can you no longer get at all?
The Collector’s Edition four, the PAX trio, King Rammus, Rusty Blitzcrank, UFO Corki, Riot Squad Singed, Judgment Kayle, past Victorious skins and Worlds 2012 Riven. Everything else labelled “rare” is usually Legacy and can rotate back.
Thirteen or so skins are genuinely closed cases, each for a different structural reason, and Riot’s answer has consistently been a new skin that winks at the old one rather than an open door. The only collectible here still in play is the current season’s Victorious skin, and that comes down to a rank finish. If the ladder is what stands between you and it, our LoL rank boost team runs the climb on your account, on your schedule, before the season closes and it joins the list.
